Update on this, it is now possible for Shopify Plus customers to allow their customers to also fund trees on checkout. For now this is only available for Shopify Plus stores as Shopify only allows us to edit the checkout for plus stores.
We are still exploring different options to allow all our stores to make the most of this functionality.
